Best Places to Take Dad for Father’s Day in St. Cloud — Our Top Five

How do you show your appreciation for dear-ol’-dad on the one day a year it’s required he be treated like a king among men?  Well, first and foremost, you spend time with him — that’s the most important thing.  But what to do come the third Sunday in June?  Here are our top recommendations on the best places to take dad on Father’s Day in St. Cloud.

Nothing says “Dad, I love you — now enjoy that $7 beer I just bought for you” like an afternoon at Twins Stadium. This Father’s Day, the Twins are hosting the San Diego Padres in an afternoon game. Dad will be impressed you got tickets just for him. (Yes, he knows it wasn’t just for him, but so what?)

St. Cloud River Bats

Or if you prefer to keep the celebration closer to home and more affordable, take Dad to a St. Cloud River Bats game.  The Bats are hosting the Thunder Bay Bordercats in an evening game at Joe Faber Field on Father’s Day. You can get tickets online, or treat dad to the game on the Charter Sports Deck with all you can eat food, soft drinks and buck beers. Dad will be proud of your financial accumen as he wolfs down another dog and orders a third cold one.

Walleye Fishing

Dad’s always complaining you don’t spend enough time with him, right? Well, fix that with a little fishing excursion to Lake Mille Lacs.  Angle for walleye, talk smart and complain about stuff — the weather / lack of fish / your mother — together. Remember, it’s not the fish you catch, but the memories you create.  And when you get tired of creating memories, hit the buffet at Grand Casino-Mille Lacs and belly up to the blackjack tables with Dad. If you’re good, he may spot you a few chips.

Frisbee Golf

The St. Cloud Area has so many fun and inexpensive things to do outdoors, it’s hard to pin down one thing Dad will enjoy. So choose Dad’s favorite and run with it.

— Go for a walk at Clemens Rose Garden or Munsinger Gardens along the river. Take a picnic lunch if you keep it to a small group.

— Try to kick Dad’s butt at frisbee golf. There are several area courses worthy of his — or your — disc prowess.

— Help improve Dad’s swing with some practice golf at the Stardome in Waite Park or take him out for the real deal. Again, be thrifty and check out the discount golf deals before you reserve a tee time.  Dad doesn’t have to know.

Bloody Mary

It’s not just Mom who likes Sunday brunch. Just call it a buffet and Dad’ll be all over it. Might I recommend the Sunday brunch at Coyote Moon at the Territory Golf Course?

Lots of breakfast and lunch/dinner entrees, sides and desserts. Plus, feed Dad some Bloody Marys and life will be good. Make sure you call ahead for a reservation — they were crazy busy for Mother’s Day, but well worth it!

Grilling Pork Chops

Yeah, it’s sort of a rip-off to make Dad grill on his special day.  Soften the blow by buying all the necessarystuff, prepping it and get him that grill gadget he’s been wanting. Just make sure to have plenty of his favorite beverages on hand.

Remember, Dad will remember the good times you shared together — not the tie and shirt you picked-up for him at the last minute, like last year.
