Chad From Nickelback Explains Reason Behind Detroit Protest [VIDEO][NSFW][POLL]

After hearing about the petition that was being passed around to get Nickelback off the halftime show for last Thursday’s Thanksgiving game in Detroit, I was a bit skeptical as to it’s origin.  I mean as much as some people hate Nickelback they have a huge following, even in Detroit. So when I read that lead singer Chad Kroeger told the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC) the real reason why one Detroit resident launched an online petition to have the band removed from the halftime show it all made sense.  Kroeger says; in the interview:

There is an individual, who is a local artist. ‘Artist’ wanted to play the halftime show. So the guy who started the petition has something to do with (this artist), and thought to himself, ‘How do I get my buddy to be able to play the halftime show? I will start a petition.’”

Chad never relvealed who the artist actually was, although I have my suspicions.  How many big acts are from Detroit?  You do the math and figure it out.

Nickelback performed at the game even though thousands of people signed the petition to replace them with a local Detroit act. Various reports said that the overall response to the group at the event was mixed. The group filmed a Funny Or Die sketch video (which you can watch below) in which they poked fun at the controversy.

The band released their seventh album, Here And Now, last Tuesday (November 21st). As with all their albums this one is expected to debut on this week’s Billboard chart in the top five, actually it’s expected to be number two.  They are prediction more than 250K copies sold.  We will find out tomorrow as the chart will be released.
