Corey Taylor Talks About Being Singer Of Velvet Revolver, But Doesn’t Say Much

I think that fact that Stone Sour/Slipknot lead man Corey Taylor said very little about the rumors of him leading Velvet Revolver speaks volumes.  I really believe that he will in fact be announced as the new member.  But when ?  I posted on this a few weeks ago but here is the new story from Billboard.com.

Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor neither confirmed nor denied rumors that he could be the new Velvet Revolver vocalist in a Friday (January 28th) interview with Billboard.com, merely laughing and saying, “To be continued!” when asked about it. Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum and guitarist Slash have both said recently that the band has been working with a “known” singer to replace the long-departed Scott Weiland, although they have yet to officially announce a name. Meanwhile, rumors have circulated that Taylor could be their man, especially after Slash’s wife tweeted three weeks ago that her and her husband were having dinner with a “mr. corey.”

It’s difficult to see how Taylor could take on a third singing gig, since he’s also the vocalist for Slipknot. Stone Sour is touring well into May, while Slipknot is doing some festival gigs this summer.

As for the future of Slipknot, which Taylor has been ambivalent about since the death last May of bassist Paul Gray, the singer said he’s not even sure if he can be a part of it at this point:

“There’s a big part of me that wonders if I’m the guy for that band anymore, you know. I’m in such a different place in my life. Does it make sense anymore? You know, a lot of things don’t mean the same to me anymore, and there’s a lot of things that I don’t feel like saying anymore. So, you know, we’ll just have to see. There’s just a lot of things that I’ve got to figure out.”

Taylor said to Billboard about continuing Slipknot without Gray,

“There are moments when I’m like, ‘Let’s keep going for him,’ and there are moments when I’m like, ‘It’s not the same without him.’ Right now my main concern is baby steps. We lost a huge piece of our band. We lost a huge member of our family — in my opinion the biggest — and it’s a different vibe now.”

Stone Sour is currently in the midst of the Nightmare After Christmas tour with Avenged Sevenfold, and will head overseas next month before coming home to headline the Avalanche Tour in March.

As for Velvet Revolver, the deadline for a potential singer announcement in January has pretty much come and gone, although Sorum recently said the band would like to secure their frontman soon and begin recording this spring
