Five Great St. Cloud Area Places for a First Date
Going on a first date is all about getting to know that her. It’s all about feeling comfortable around her, and more importantly, making sure that she is comfortable around you. A lot of guys make the mistake of trying to put on an ‘act’ on the first date. They will try so hard to make a good impression, that they end up lying — or badly exaggerating — about all kinds of things. The first date is actually the one where it is most important to just be yourself.
So where do you take this special gal, when you finally work up the nerves to ask her out? There are a couple rules to remember; DON’T come on too strong, too soon – DON’T be a cheap-ass – and DON’T get drunk. If she wants to have a few drinks to loosen up a little, fine, but don’t get WASTED. You don’t have to be a DORK, to be a GENTLEMAN.

So, here are five places in the St. Cloud area, that I would recommend for a first date. In no particular order, and depending on your interests, here goes.
RIVER BATS GAME – You’re thinking,”What, a ballgame?!” Absolutely. Even if you’re not a baseball fan, a St. Cloud River Bats game at Joe Faber Field is the perfect spot for a first date. Sit on the Sportsdeck, you get unlimited food and pop, $2 beer, and you’ll be outside on a beautiful Minnesota night. Remember, it’s all about talking to her, and the ballgame provides the ideal opportunity for that. And remember, you can leave at any time. Nobody really cares who wins the game. Watch a few innings, have some food and drinks, and by then – you two should be figuring out what to do after the game, if you catch my drift.

LIVE COMEDY — It’s a fact, everybody likes to laugh. Much like a concert, a live comedy show can be a terrific ice breaker. Rum Runner Comedy Club (downtown), and The Benton Station (Sauk Rapids), are the best options in our area for live comedy. At Benton Station, you can also get good food, and usually a live band after the comedy. Did you know women love to dance? Just sayin’.
DOWN BY THE RIVER – The Clear Waters Outfitting Company in Clearwater, provides you with a very unique dating idea. You can enjoy a 2 to 3 hour leisurely cruise in a canoe or kayak (I suggest canoe, then she’s sitting really close to you!), down the Mississippi River. All equipment, and the shuttle service afterwards, are included. Bring a lunch, enjoy nature, swim around, go ashore whenever you want.
WARNING: Even in the middle of the afternoon, this is the kind of date that is much more romantic than you may suspect. The two of you will bond after spending a few hours alone together on the river. The river trip is done in the afternoon, so you can part ways for a few hours, and then maybe get together again that evening.
THE GARDENS – There are not many places in our part of the state more beautiful than the Clemens Rose Gardens and Munsinger Gardens. While this may not be the most exciting date idea ever – this is the perfect spot to talk, hold hands, and get to know one another. Every woman likes flowers – and it’s FREE. Make sure you take her for a nice, secluded, walk down by the river, as well.

Getty Images THE CASINO — When you go on a date to the casino, it’s got to be different than when you go with your buddies. On a date, it doesn’t really matter if you win or lose. In fact, you should expect to lose. But more importantly, she will have a great time gambling with your money – and, at the casino, it really is a team effort. You’ll be cheering each other on, all night. It’s a “together” thing.
So, there you go, and I hope that first date goes perfectly for you. Just be yourself, and be a gentleman, and she’ll want a second date.
