Foo Fighters Show Almost Causes an Earthquake

This is a sign of a great show! Anytime you play a show for over 50,000 and almost cause an earthquake, you know you ROCK!
It seems that the Foo Fighter did almost cause an earthquake at a show in New Zealand recently. According to a press release, the 50,000 fans at the show actually generated geological tremors. Nearby monitoring stations picked up tremors consistent with those generated by a volcanic event. It was even determined that the shaking coincided with the Foo Fighters performance, right down to breaks in between the songs. The two monitoring stations picked up signals that were within two kilometers of the stadium. The shaking started after 8pm, when the show began and the Foo started their set. The tremors ended at 11pm, when the band finished. The report at the GeoNet blog said that the cause of the shaking was “most likely the weight of the 50,000 fans dancing, as 50,000 fans is equal to around 5,000 tons of mass moving on the ground for the duration of the concert.”
