Should Poll Dancing Be An Olympic Event? [POLL]

YouTube

Something that has been the topic of discussion for some time now — should pole dancing be considered a sport? Now that the 2012 London Olympics are on, people are wondering if this should be considered an Olympic event.

The International Pole Sports Federation is trying to find a way to get pole dancing into the Olympics. Their Vice President, Timothy Trautman, says the only way to get people to realize that pole dancers are incredible athletes is to have it recognized as an Olympic sport.

“They have such grace and elegance and they absolutely belong in the Olympics. But we do fight the stereotype that it’s for strippers.”

U.S. National Pole Dancing Champion Natasha Wang said,

“My stance has always been that while I support the pole community’s efforts to get pole into the Olympics, I don’t think the general public is ready for the sport yet on such a mainstream/public scale.”

I have to agree with Natasha, but also disagree. I think those that wrap their legs and bodies around the pole are very athletic. Have you tried to twirl on the pole?  It’s not easy. It takes a lot of upper body strength and control to pull that off.

Are we ready for this to be broadcast on the T.V.? Probably not, but who cares! There are “worse” things to watch! If you don’t like it, don’t watch. The power of the remote control!

If you are watching any of the Olympic coverage, do you watch every event? Pole dancing would sure keep things exciting, more so then women’s beach volleyball. If they keep the pole dancing classy, not trashy, what’s the harm?!?!
