Skillet Single Hits Top Of Charts

Skillet has hit the top of the rock radio chart with “Awake & Alive,” the latest single from the band’s 2009 album Awake. The song is the third track from the record to crack the rock Top Five, following “Monster” and “Hero,” while the disc itself has been certified gold for sales of more than half a million copies. Asked why this album has connected in such a big way, here’s what frontman John Cooper told us:
“On our last record, which was called Comatose, I think that our sound was a little left of center, or a little off-center, and maybe we could have given radio something a little more straightforward. And so we went into the project this time thinking we still want to keep our sound, we want to keep what’s unique about us, but maybe we could give ‘em a little something that’s a little easier for them to swallow.”
* Skillet will release a new digital EP called Awake And Remixed next Tuesday (March 22nd) through all online retailers. The EP features alternate versions of songs featured on Awake, including “Awake And Alive.”
* The arrival of the EP coincides with the launch of the group’s appearance on the upcoming Avalanche Tour alongside Stone Sour, Theory Of A Deadman and Halestorm. That road trip kicks off on March 24th in Chicago with dates booked through early May.
