St. Cloud Doctor Pushing To Raise Tobacco Age To 21 [POLL]
As a person coming from a smoking family (parents, aunts, uncles, cousins the whole nine yards) many people are surprised that I don’t smoke. Well after living with it for a good portion of my life, not only do I get killer headaches from it (I feel one coming on right now just talking about this), but I also think that it’s one of the most stupidest things in the world.
I get that it was a whole different time when my parents were growing up and that they have tried to stop after I asked them to many times, but it’s an addiction that they got hooked onto when they were young. So that’s where I stand behind Doctor Julie Anderson who is pushing our local city councils to raise the tobacco age. Doctor Anderson works with the St. Cloud Medical Group and she has been making presentations to several city councils in the St. Cloud metro area. She says she feels she can get more traction for changing the age from 18 to 21 at the city level, rather trying to change state law.
Doctor Anderson says that 70% of Minnesota residents already support the idea (*Raises hand* Yep. Where do I sign to make it official?), with the town of Edina already working on drafting an ordinance to change their minimum tobacco age to 21.
