Twins Have 4 Players Playing in World Baseball Classic

The Twins have 4 players selected to play in the World Baseball Classic. The four are catcher Joe Mauer (USA), relief pitcher Glen Perkins (USA), first baseman Justin Morneau (Canada) and catcher Drew Butera (Italy). The World Baseball Classic will be played in March of 2013.

Current Twins players relief pitchers Brian Duensing and Glen Perkins will be coming to St. Cloud for the event along with assistant coach Joe Vavra, Assistant General Manager Rob Antony and Kris Atteberry from the Twins Radio Network.

The Twins traded centerfielder Ben Revere to the Philadelphia Philllies to righthanded starting pitchers. The two pitchers are Vance Worley and prospect Trevor May. Worley is a 6'2 230 pound 25-year old who's pitched parts of 3 seasons in the major leagues for the Phillies.

Twins Add Gibson, Hicks to 40-Man Roster

The Twins have added 8 players to their 40-man Major League roster and invite each player to spring training with a chance to make the team. Among the 8 players added are righthanded starting pitcher Kyle Gibson, who is coming off elbow surgery. Gibson was 3-2 with a 5.40 ERA pitching in the Arizona Fall League.

The Twins signed right-handed starting pitchers Sam Deduno and Esmerling Vasquez to minor league contracts. The 29-year old Deduno was 6-5 with a 4.44 ERA for the Twins in 2012. The 28-year old Vasquez was 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA for the Twins in 2012. Both players are expected to compete for a starting spot in the Twins rotation this spring.

The Twins have promoted Tom Brunansky from triple-A hitting coach to major league hitting coach, have promoted Bobby Cuellar from triple-A pitching coach to major league bullpen coach and have hired former Twin Terry Steinbach as bullpen coach and catching instructor. Brunansky was the starting rightfielder for the Twins during their 1987 World Series Championship team.

Yan Gomes hit a solo dinger off Glen Perkins in the 9th, which forced a 10th, but it was Anthony Gose who hit the game winner RBI single in the 10th off Brian Duensing to win it for Toronto
