This is the year you will finally stick to your New Year's Resolution. No more failed attempts at a better you. They say it only takes 28 days to make form a habit. A habit of going to the gym or eating more vegetables instead of cookies. So cheers to you in making your resolution a reality. Below I have 5 common New Year's Resolutions and how you can make your plan a reality with the help of local places here in Central Minnesota.

Eating Healthier


 
 

If your goal this year is to eat healthier, start off slowly. Don't bite off more than you can chew. If you start off with the goal of getting rid of all the junk food in your cabinets, you will set yourself up for failure.

Try setting smaller goals like eating more vegetables, eating at home more often rather than going through the drive thru, choosing to eat healthier snacks. There are many options in town to get healthier food. If you shop at Cash Wise or Coborns, try heading into their natural food sections. There you will find things with whole food ingredients, less processed foods.

The Good Earth Food Co-Op is great for organic whole food. It may take you several visits to see what they have to offer, but your body will thank you. If you have picked up a Cook Book for Christmas to get a jump start on your Healthier You for 2012 and are struggling to find some ingredients, try Byerly's. They have a wide selection of ingredients, spices, and hard to find substitutes.

Fixing Your Finances


 
 

If money is the cause for most of your stress in 2011, fixing your finances will not be a snap of the fingers and bam you have perfect credit. You probably already knew that.

Looking at your debt to income ratio and you are sick of living pay check to pay check, there are several ways to have much less money stress in 2012. Keep in mind that debt won't go away over night and your credit will take months if not years to fix, every bill you pay off is one step closer to financial freedom.

You've probably heard before to pay off the credit card that has the highest interest rate first and to pay double what your payment is. But, what if you don't have the income to do that? Several places here in Central Minnesota will help you get your money in order so you can drive that new car you want, be able to afford the vacation you want to take, or even get you in the home you never thought you could afford.

Catholic Charities will help you manage your debt and your bills without trying to gain financially themselves. There are also several financial institutions to help with your debt, but they will also charge a fee to help.

Getting In Shape


 
 

While a gym is a great place to work out, just signing the membership papers won't get you to exercise more. Make a specific fitness-related resolution so exercise happens such as, "I will exercise three times a week," or "I'll sign up for a class once a week." Specific, focused goals are more likely to happen and can jump-start other exercise goals.

Getting a personal trainer is a great way to keep you focused on your goals. Gold's Gym, WOW!, Snap Fitness, Downtown Gym and Fitness are just a few on the gyms here in town. Several to choose from, each with different atmospheres. 

And who says you have to be a gym member to get into shape. Walking trails in the area, or joining a local sports league. Something is better than nothing.

Quit Drinking


 
 

You are in control of your own destiny. You are the one who knows best when its time to stop tipping the bottle. If this is your resolution this year, congratulations on starting the process of sobriety. Maybe its not alcohol, maybe its drugs that you want to quit. If you want to be a sober you in 2012 AA meetings are a great way to connect with others that are on the same path to freedom as you are. Having a strong support system behind you will help you to put the bottle or drugs down.

Quit Smoking


 
 

I don't think the dangers of smoking need to be said. You know its a horrible, filthy habit that is killing you and wasting your money. But how can you quit when it's so hard.

Some experts say you need medication and nicotine substitutes to quit. Other say going cold turkey is the best way.  Choose the best plan to quit that will work best for you.

Several options out there to help you stop the habit of smoking. Hypnosis might be one of them. Reading a book worked for millions as well.  Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking. You can continue to smoke while reading the book, which is odd, but it has worked for millions.

Don't be hard on yourself if your first attempt to quit doesn't work. Try, try, and try again.
