Wingfest 2014 Sells Out 36,000 Chicken Wings [PHOTOS]
Wingfest 2014 was this past Saturday (April 5th) at the Sports Arena East building at the Benton County Fairgrounds and it was a mad house! Hundreds, maybe even thousands of people came that night to chow down on different kinds of chicken wings. But their was other kinds of food besides wings, just in case if some people wanted something a little bit more sweeter or if they brought kids. You had frozen yogurt, cheesecake in a cone (Which I really wanted to try but I wasn’t able to that night. Maybe next year), pop, water and cold beer. Lots and lots of cold beer.
I was so amazed at how many people were there that I didn’t get to try that many wings. I think that I only had two different kinds and then I was taken away to another part of the arena to help with something. But some people very close to me got to try a lot of different wings that night.
Yep, Mom and Dad stopped on by to see and try what was all at Wingfest. And of course to see me too. They had a fun time, though Mom wished that she wouldn’t have tried the really hot hot wings. She’s not to fond of hot and spicy foods.
Besides all the people that night, the second craziest thing that happen was that all of the 36,000 chicken wings ran out only 2.5 HOURS into the event. I was informed that a estimated 5000+ wing eaters devoured every single wing by 7PM. Damn… people in Central Minnesota are hungry.
Dozens of local vendors were there at Wingfest for the best tasting sauce. Both amateur and professional wing sauce makers competed in separate divisions, with the winner in the professional section getting free advertising and the winner in the amateur section getting gift certificates.
The “professional” sauce winners from Saturday’s event:
- Old Capital Tavern (Sauk Rapids)
- Waldo’s Pizza (St. Cloud)
- Demon Pig BBQ Sauce (Breezy Point)
And the winners in the amateur division:
- Jerry Heinz
- Les Levin
- Sam Burvee
Saturday was a great night, good food (At least from what I was told), cold beer and LOTS of people! Can’t wait for Wingfest 2015!
